The Finding Our Place™ Journey
1. SEE — Understanding Our Family
Before changing the family, we learn to see it.
Families explore their current relationships, roles, strengths, stressors, expectations, and recurring patterns.
We can't change a pattern we can't see.
2. UNDERSTAND — Why We Respond This Way
Families explore what may be underneath their reactions.
Past experiences. Attachment. Temperament. Executive functioning. Emotional regulation. Expectations. Stress. Fear. Hurt.
Behavior begins to make more sense when we understand the story underneath it.
3. REPAIR — Changing Unhealthy Patterns
Families practice interrupting cycles of criticism, defensiveness, withdrawal, rescuing, escalation, blame, and avoidance.
Repair becomes something the family learns to do—not something they simply hope happens.
4. REDEFINE — Finding Our Roles
Family members clarify responsibilities, boundaries, expectations, and relationships.
Parents remain parents.
Children are allowed to be children.
Individual differences are respected.
And each person begins discovering:
“This is my place in our family.”
5. BUILD — Creating Our Family Culture
Finally, families intentionally create the culture they want to carry forward.
They develop shared values, family expectations, communication practices, routines, traditions, and ways of handling conflict.
Instead of allowing old patterns to define the family, the family begins choosing what comes next.
